I lost my housing and had to move. I got a new job that doesn't allow me to post the entire time.

As long as it’s the right people, I don’t really care. It’s about building community anyway, not consuming it.

I have no patience for campism, which puts me on the bad side of many people on here who adore playing tribalist games about how some atrocities and some racism is good, for some bizarre fucking reason.

Separately, I argue with a very bitter tone, which also puts me on the bad side of many people, and those folk are much more justified in feeling negatively towards me.

Idk, banning any slight USA “criticism” (if that’s even what that was) feels like unnecessary shrinking the community, but modding is work too & someone has got to do it … then again vibe banning feels like a wrong way forward.

It wasn't about "USA criticism", but the idea that South Korea is an American 'colony' is not only bizarre but a common tankie canard - one which you repeated in several comments in that thread.

Generally I don’t think ppl should be banned solely on pov (without being uncivil or something actually bad). No warning or a chance to reply. Just ban.

POV is often something actually bad. I'm not here to make the comms I moderate a safe space for campists and fascists or their talking points. If you want to talk bullshit about 'occupied Korea', that's what the tankie triad is for.

This isn't a metaphorical Nazi bar, and I'm not about to let it become one no matter how politely it's phrased.

(Sorry for the late reply, I'm a lemm.ee refuge & I'm still looking for my next home instance, nowdays I mainly use lemmy.zip or thelemmy.club, same username.)

Oh, I'm def not a tankie, I just see a lot of "USA gloriously won the WWII" oneliners & I might overcorrect sometimes.

I live in EU, not that far from a USA military base with USA nuclear weapons & have seen USA influences on early school textbooks (eg the food pyramid).

I often say we are "colonies" too - but with like quotation marks so that it's obvious from the context that I do not mean that we like pay literal taxes & get our government directly picked by USA (so no, South Korea isn't a literal colony, just perhaps gets more influenced by USA than their other main trading partners bcs of political relations).

(Also in EU NATO countries - it's not like the relationships to USA aren't fairly one-sided, my country def won't get a permanent military base on USA soil if it wished that for some reason.)

I'm not here to make the comms I moderate a safe space for campists and fascists or their talking points.

Fair enough (& I'm glad if that is your goal), but perhaps consider making at least a broad, generalized list of what that is (the rules section, which I generally actually read, is very short iirc).

I'm not that educated in such subculture things* & honestly had no idea that would be against the comms rules - ie if "USA colonialism/imperialism", or whatever a better description of that is, would be mentioned in the rules, then it's obvious that it's off the table & just wouldn't talk about that (I'm compliant to ones house rules in general/in principle).

Without your reply here I would have never known why I go bananered (I'm not even arguing the ban, but it actually makes a difference in my life just known the reason/understanding the mechanic, so thx for that).

*I mean that bcs my mind doesn't organise things by people, eg I rarely/never take sides where all arguments of one side are automatic bs & the other sides arguments are fine.
