This is unfortunate. The open social web is not a zero-sum game. It's what we're trying to escape when we come here.

I think @dansup will agree that we shouldn't want one platform for each media type. You don't beat TikTok with one clone. You do it with a variety of interoperable short-form video apps so that every person using TikTok finds one that does it better for them.

We don't *have* to build together, but we also shouldn't be building *against* each other.

Rip Vidzy. They deleted their project after crashing out by attacking and trying to blame me for "stealing users", despite my attempts to collaborate and give them attention. Many folks have asked us about auto-bridging Bluesky like @aphyr has, and it's a good question!

There's two reasons for not flipping that switch:
1. Costs! Bsky has a huge userbase, and Bridgy Fed / @anewsocial is currently mostly self-funded with some community support (ty!). Onboarding a large swath of users isn't something we can afford at the moment.
