Honestly, I think what he got lambasted for was almost innocent compared to all the other #metoo stuff.

I'm pretty sure what he did was, at the time, under the guise of a consensual sex act that the other party agreed to. Now of course there is a power imbalance and he admitted as much (His statement is here) but I found it pretty mild compared to all the wild shit happening and that happened.

I'll admit it's gross and he did abuse his power over those women but he owned up to it and was honest. Huge difference between jerking off with someone watching/participating and actually raping someone though and that distinction is important.

Yeah Louis's situation seems pretty unique. Not on the same level as someone like Epstein or Weinstein. He didn't do anything with his own employees or underaged fans. Sarah Silverman has been a big supporter of him and confirmed that he was always like that going back to when there was not a power disparity in their early club days together. His apology statement is one of the best I've ever seen.

But... There's still some red flags, including some in just discovering as I am refreshing myself on the details now. If the 5 accusers, it looks like the first 2 were from an incident in 2002 at a festival where they escalated to to event organizers... And nothing happened. Then Rebecca Corry in 2005 on a TV show set who declined and reported the incident... And nothing happened. I can't find when the other incidents happened, but like... Surely after these first 2 cases someone would have communicated to Louis how this was bad, right?

And Dave Becky, Louis's manager at the time, sent letters to the victims threatening them to try to silence them. He later apologized and dropped Louis as a client, and Louis later publicly supported Becky and apologized to him as well. I'm not sure what to make of the whole mess, but if Becky was threatening victims that kinda feels like it should be worth some jail time, and if Louis ordered him to do so... Yikes.

Also I don't think there's an objective answer as to whether he should have retired, or how long he should have stayed out of the spotlight before returning. If I were him I probably would have just retired, but at the very least I would have spent a few years out of the spotlight. The initial article with the accusations came out in November 2017, and his next public appearance was August 2018, not even a whole year. And there was no easing in with less controversial material - he jumped into School shootings. He has since released a special called "Sorry" where he didn't apologize but instead kept getting more controversial and used the F slur.

He's also very good friends with Dave Chappelle, a certified piece of shit, and Jerry Seinfeld, famous for dating 17 year-old high school girls. And I get it- he got his break early on by opening for Seinfeld, but ya know maybe just tone down how public that friendship is given the circumstances?

I don't feel the need to break out the torches and pitchforks for Louis, or pretend like none of his earlier works ever existed, but i'm also not in some huge hurry to defend him and restore his career either.

I'm American, but like I said, I've never had to ride a bus (besides HS school buses). My sister used to ride a bus to community college, only cause she was too afraid of driving originally.

I see this all the time on the road and I just don't get it. People would rather tailgate me for miles than change lanes and go around. Someone please explain why people are like this.

Meanwhile I'm changing lanes the the very moment I see a car going slower in front of me. One thing I absolutely hate is having to turn off the cruise control once it's on, and I use it everywhere, even on city streets (I drive a sports car so it's easy to accidentally speed if I don't).

Edit: I don't understand these downvotes. What's wrong with using the passing lane to pass? Why am I the asshole because someone is afraid to change lanes? I already drive 15 MPH over the speed limit, and always stick to the right when I'm not passing (even though no one else in my city does this). So if you're tailgating when I'm already doing my best to be more courteous than the average person in the road, that makes me the dick?

Someone please explain why this comment is triggering so many people. I really don't get it.

Where I live, it's illegal to pass on the right, and anywhere else it is more dangerous because it's unexpected.

Keep off the passing lane unless you are passing another vehicle.

Adaptive cruise control. As long as you're at or above speed limit, I'll happily let my car keep me behind you. I generally have no reason to pass unless you're under the speed limit.

Yeah, but that saying is absolutely brain dead, because if you take it literally it states anyone that has ever missed their exit is a good driver, which clearly isn't true

it doesn't say that at all.

it said that good drivers SOMETIMES miss their exits.

it did not say ALL good drivers miss their exits. it did not even say that ALL good drivers sometimes miss their exits. it said that there are times where good drivers miss their exit. there's no imperative.

A friend of mine got a phone call at daft o'clock one evening from his son who hadn't turned up home.

"Dad, can you pick me up from the city centre please?"

Bear in mind that he lived in a smaller town 40 miles or so from the city; on a bus route that spanned two cities about 90 miles apart.

Turns out that he had been taught how to board a bus; ask for a ticket; pay; and take a seat... but never learned how to leave a bus.

His dad was understandably pissed off, having been kicked out of bed at midnight to do a near two-hour round trip drive to pick his lad up. He asking him why he hadn't pushed the bell to signal the driver to stop.

"I thought they were just emergency stop buttons, and because I told the driver where I was going when I got the ticket, I thought he would stop for me... and when he didn't, I just sat and waited until the end of the line".

                      Poor soul.

Except it doesn't, you got the implication wrong. If I say "Astronauts sometimes eat apples" that does not imply that all people who eat apples are astronauts. The statement can still be true even if some/most people who miss their exits are not good drivers.

You're focusing on the wrong part. If I say "astronauts never eat oranges" then that implies that if someone eats an orange (misses an exit), they are not an astronaut (are NOT a bad driver).

Practically everyone trying to make a right hand turn at the intersection where my apartment is. You have exactly 1.5 miles to get into the right lane, but 90% of drivers wait until they get right to the turn, with 5% getting in the lane well ahead of time and the last 5% turning from the straight lane around the little pedestrian island thing instead of actually using the right hand turn lane.

Where I live, it's illegal to pass on the right, and anywhere else it is more dangerous because it's unexpected.

Keep off the passing lane unless you are passing another vehicle.

I never cruise in the passing lane, ever. It's a major pet peeve of mine. If I'm not passing anyone, I'm as far right as possible.

Unfortunately literally nobody else does this in my town. They drive side-by-side and then get upset when I try to go around. Going the speed limit does not give you the right to block traffic, assholes. Drives me insane.

Huh? How does changing lanes to pass someone make me an asshole? That's what passing lanes are for! Please explain. I don't understand these downvotes.

And no I don't drive a BMW. I think they're ugly, especially in a boring color like white (except for the Z series, and even those still have the ugly BMW grille).

No. I prefer Asian vehicles. I drive a 350Z Roadster Touring 6MT w/the DE engine in Daytona Blue.

it doesn't say that at all.

it said that good drivers SOMETIMES miss their exits.

it did not say ALL good drivers miss their exits. it did not even say that ALL good drivers sometimes miss their exits. it said that there are times where good drivers miss their exit. there's no imperative.

even if you want to be the most pedantic person on this autism boat of a website; in this case you're just plane wrong.

How many times did you get dropped on your head as a child?

                                        Oh, you're just American

Yeah, but that saying is absolutely brain dead, because if you take it literally it states anyone that has ever missed their exit is a good driver, which clearly isn't true

false dichotomy. There are not strictly "good drivers" and "bad drivers", there are also "okay" drivers.
