Federating peertube videos

bh4-tech you'll want to search the url in NodeBB itself, not as a link embed:
Ubuntu 25.04: a bigger release than I thought!

julian As suggested by you, searching the URL worked, but I still have one problem and one query-
- Peertube videos(from tilvids.com) don't start playing. In mastodon
and misskey, the hls fragments(~200kB) are fetched but in nodebb, it seems that the entire file is fetched
(~150MB) and so playback dosen't start. I tried with two different videos from tilvids.com and got the same result in both cases.
- Can peertube videos be played only by searching or will they also play if a remote post from a peertube account (like [email protected] )contains the video and that post comes in my feed?

bh4-tech they seem to be playing fine for me.
Not sure why you're having issues with playback, but we don't stream piece by piece, it's just a video element playing the mp4 file.
When you search the video, that is the post that would come through your feed.

It would be nice if peertube videos could be moved into forum topics and display embedded. Either keeping a local copy, or embedding by linking could work. It can only be done by downloading and posting a new topic which works, but breaks the federated conversation.
hello, i am using nodebb 4.4.4 is there an option or a plugin to install to have this preview for peertube video?
or did I have just to enable federation?

bh4-tech currently user images don't appear to be coming through right either, though that might just be for already federated channels only

Furbland-Channel-2 you'll also need the link preview plugin active

julian did just federate a post manually and the video will not play, what i would suggest doing is loading the embed in an iframe instead of the raw video file (that's how most other fedi software does it)

wrote last edited by [email protected]Furbland-Channel-2 Yes, this is a feature which even I too would like to have and have already mentioned in https://community.nodebb.org/post/104536 point 1. julian You are most probably on a fast internet connection and that is why you are not facing any problem in the current behavior(fetching the entire file). But people like me, Furbland-Channel-2 and most peope in real-life who are on average-speed internet connection are facing problem in playing peertube videos and would like to have the peertube videos played in iframe embed(hls) just like other platforms(mastodon, misskey, etc)
